PLASTO-02  |  seebeyondreality studios

Description

Plasto-02 is a pen casing designed for OCAD University’s Plastic Studio, created as a solution to standardize the studio's pen resources. It also functions as a quick measuring tool for students using the space. Commissioned by the studio's technician, Andrew Atkin, the design aims to improve the studio’s efficiency and resource management.

Project Timeframe: 4 weeks

Material: Resin

Scale: 1:1

Design Process

The fabrication of Plasto-02 followed a structured design process, beginning with initial sketches informed by the studio technician’s parameters. The design required a branded pen with ruler increments for quick measurements while ensuring it remained stationary when placed on a surface. To refine the concept, I focused on ergonomics, determining the ideal dimensions based on various hand sizes to ensure a comfortable grip.

3D MODEL

Afterwards, I translated the design into a 3D model using Shapr3D, refining the form before moving into fabrication.

3D PRINT

The model was then 3D-printed in resin, allowing for an initial prototype to assess its functionality and proportions.

WET SANDING

The print was then wet-sanded to remove irregularities and prepare it for mold-making.
